Best Beer in Downtown Los Angeles

The best places to grab a beer in Downtown Los Angeles. Since face it, we won’t always want the $15 cocktail. Growing up, Downtown Los Angeles wasn’t a place you’d go to hangout. That all changed in the early 2000s when the Staples Center opened. This introduced a new life into the area. Soon after the popular restaurant Bottega Louie opened creating restaurant row.

Now Downtown LA is a bustling part of town. Where you’ll find events, museums like the broad and Disney's concert hall. Many of the historic buildings around DTLA have remained intact. So it’s fun to see a mix of modern architecture with buildings that have been around for over 50 years. That’s why it’s fun to have a laid back weekend with friends here and grab a few beers. Here is where to get the best beer in Downtown Los Angeles:

Arts District Brewing Company

Exterior of Arts District Brewing Company

Arts District Brewing Company - 828 Traction Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90013

Opened in 2015, Arts District Brewing company is a brewpub with 20+ handcrafted beers on tap. They have a 15 barrel brewhouse that is capable of brewing 3,300 barrels of beer each year. They offer original beers that include golden ales, stouts, and IPAs. The Brewpub is huge and I recommend it if you have a large group of friends. There is something for everyone to do besides beer! They have retro games that include pinball and restored skeeball machines. You can also find classic bar games and a photo booth to capture all your drunk glory. For food, you can find burgers, fries, nachos, and fish tacos. I come so I can beat my friends at skeeball which only cost $1 per game.

Imperial Western Beer Company

Imperial Western Beer Company - 800 N Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

The Imperial Wester Beer Company is a brewery located in the historic Union Station. I wasn’t sure I wanted to share this place or keep it a secret. The historic architecture, art deco details, and high ceilings are jaw-dropping. Making this the place if you want to impress some friends or a date. Opened last October it had been 50 years since it had been a bar and restaurant. The reason it stayed unused was that the cost to bring the kitchen up to code was an expensive undertaking. In 2014 the hospitality group 213 made it happen. From there it took 4 years to have their vision come to life. They’re also behind renovating DTLA gems Cole’s and Golden Gopher. The process took a while to retain as much of the historic detail as they could. There’s plenty to see and do here - pool, shuffleboard, and checkers. You can choose from many of their in-house beers and tasty bar snacks.

Angel City Brewery

Exterior Angel City Brewery

Angel City Brewery - 216 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

Angel City Brewery is well known for their beer. But their brewery is a great spot to visit when in DTLA. They offer a lot of angel city beer on tap including exclusive flavors you can’t get anywhere else. If you’re into beer you can even schedule a brewery tour. They don’t offer food but you can bring your own. You can find cult favorite food trucks in their parking lot. For beer, if you don’t know what to get choose their flights. Last but not least, they are an example of sustainability. They’ve converted half their parking lot into a beer garden that has trees, native plants, and real grass. They donate their spent grain to a local farmer for his animals and compost for their garden. It’s pretty dope to find a brewery that is doing its part of the environment.
