Can you Plan a Wedding in 6 months?

My blog has come full circle from me being Single AF to engaged and planning a wedding. I work in the Wedding industry. as a videographer and photographer at LA Love Weddings. So I get to be around weddings all the time and I love it. But this is my first time being part of the planning from a bride's perspective. Wow, what an adventure it's been. Any way I will be doing a series of videos on wedding planning because I have too much knowledge not to share.

I planned my wedding in less than a year and I'm going to give you all my tips.

1. Know Yourself

I am a chill person. I didn’t know before I started planning my wedding what I wanted. I wasn’t sure of the venue, style, dress, or flowers. It helped planning a wedding in less than a year because I wasn’t married to a grand idea. If you are a person that likes to over plan and analyze, then 6-8 months might not be enough time for you. But remember you can throw an amazing Wedding in less than a year. The savings you get from planning a year out aren’t as huge as you think. If you need help, and you have the budget for it, look into a wedding planner. You can hire a full-time wedding planner, month of, or day-of coordinator. I booked a day of coordinator because I knew I could handle most of the small details.

2. Organization

Staying organized will be your best friend. I like to use digital planners but also love a good notebook and pen. I love this wedding planner guide from Amazon. It is full of worksheets, tips, and folders. It also makes for a great keepsake after the wedding.

You are going to want to keep your guest list in a spreadsheet. I use mine to store addresses, emails, and gifts received. If you have a spreadsheet then you can upload it to any major invitation website.

Spreadsheets also work well for budget, vendor payments, seating assignments, and a day-of timeline.

3. Be Openminded

This is number one when planning your wedding at the last minute. Be open about being flexible with your ideas. You are competing with couples that have booked their wedding a year(s) in advance.

Some venues and vendors will not be available on your wedding date. Be open to changing your date or going with newer vendors that have strong portfolios.

4. Venue comes first

When you are working in a short amount of time. Book your venue ASAP. This ensures that people will have a place to celebrate, eat and drink. To be the most efficient with the venue search - ask for pricing guides to places you're interested in. Crunch the numbers before you tour places to see if they fit your budget. Tour places that fit your budget and style. Then carve out a month or two to look at venues only. Once you have a wedding venue, details will be easier to fall into place.

5. Rank Vendors

Every couple is different and has different priorities. Rank what is most important to you in vendors and book them in that order. This guarantees you will get what you want. I booked my videographer first because that was my number one. In searching for vendors it's okay to take breaks and come back to it. I had to take a few breaks when figuring out my photographer. But that's ok because it allowed me to clear my head and get focused. Don't rush yourself if you feel you are going to choose the wrong team. Take your time there will always be a vendor that fits your vision. Yet, if you do find someone you vibe with. Book them. It's not a time to overanalyze if you found someone perfect for your wedding.

BONUS TIP: Custom Attire

If you are a person that cares about custom attire - wedding dress or suit. Then you need to take care of that during the same time as your venue. A lot of custom attire takes time and alterations to fit your body right. My wedding dress took months to arrive and then I had about 5 fittings on top of that for alterations. If you don't care about custom attire then there are many ways to get outfits for your wedding. Including renting and wearing off the rack.
